Just what is meant by patient-centered care? And how is it incorporated into Inpatient and Outpatient substance use disorder treatment?

There are many variations of patient-centered care applicable to treating and caring for patients with substance use disorders. All of them have several things in common, centered around combining effective, evidence-based treatment with the known desires and needs of the patients themselves.

Tully Hill is committed to providing person-centered care that reflects the patient’s values, culture and beliefs. Our person-centered treatment is initiated in an inclusive manner that integrates the patient’s voice in identifying and establishing individualized treatment goals. The treatment plan contains goals and objectives that incorporate the unique strengths, needs, abilities, and preferences of the patient as well as identified challenges and potential solutions. This is evidenced and documented in the patient’s treatment plan.

Central to our patient-centered care approach is our clinical and medical staff respect for and response to individual patient needs and values, which helps guide our medical and clinical treatment and care decisions. Incorporating patients’ strengths, needs abilities, and preferences into our Inpatient and Outpatient services and programs ensures that patients actively participate in their own treatment and care, in close collaboration with Tully Hill’s substance use disorder treatment professionals.

Likewise, it fuels our policy of offering a variety of evidenced-based treatment methods and services by a multi-disciplinary team. Our evidenced-based treatment methods include: 12 step facilitation, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational enhancement therapy and medication assisted treatment. These treatment modalities are offered as treatment tools to assist patients in achieving the overall treatment goals of Tully Hill and to achieve the goals of the patient’s individualized treatment plan.

Tully Hill also recognizes that the use of Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) can be a valuable element of person-centered care. MAT is used in combination with behavioral therapy and counseling to provide a comprehensive approach to SUD treatment. MAT is used to increase the success of SUD treatment and care by preventing the true physical dangers of withdrawal, mitigating withdrawal symptoms, accelerating the normalization of neurophysiology and aiding emotional stability. MAT is used as a medical intervention and is customized to the individual patient and implemented as a collaboration between patient and medical and clinical staff to achieve patient-centered goals.

Tully Hill’s patient-centered care services and programs are dedicated to providing comprehensive, holistic care by an integrated multi-disciplinary team. Each and every day, we are committed to our standard of patient-centered care excellence and its maintenance, on behalf of each and every patient and their family who trust us to do so.
