Each year Tully Hill selects a local charity organization to support during the holiday season. This year we have chosen the “The Food Bank of Central New York”. The Food Bank of CNY is a not-for-profit organization working to eliminate hunger through nutritious food distribution, education and advocacy in cooperation with the community.
The Food Bank’s latest distribution initiative, Mobile Food Pantry (MFP) is an effort to reach communities and individuals in areas of unmet need. The Food Bank can set up a distribution virtually anywhere – serving food directly to hungry families and individuals in underserved areas. The food included in the mobile distributions is primarily highly desirable perishable goods like fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy and bread items. The Food Bank sets up a Mobile Food Pantry at St Leo’s Catholic Church in Tully on the 1st Tuesday of each month. Any leftover items are discarded.
Chef Rick Caballero and the kitchen staff educate Tully Hill’s patients by doing nutrition lectures and food demonstrations. During the “chef challenge” Chef demonstrates the menu items that can be made by utilizing foods obtained from Tully’s Mobile Food Pantry. To date, they have been able to showcase up to 12 dishes made with one pull from the distribution site. Tully Hill was invited to participate in an effort to educate patients on resources for food available in the community as well as food preparation techniques. Patients are directed to food distribution sites located near their homes prior to discharge.
In support of their mission Tully Hill gladly accepted donations of non-perishable foods, taken to The Food Pantry on December 19, 2018. Thank you to the entire staff at Tully Hill for their generosity.
